Patricia Anderson is the editor of the Australian Art Review and contributing arts editor for Quadrant Magazine. She is a literary critic and gemmologist. From 1985 to1991 she was Director of the Contemporary Jewellery Gallery in Sydney, and from 1992 to 1999 Director of the Crawford Gallery in Sydney. Among her published books are Contemporary Jewellery, the Australian Experience 1977–1987, Contemporary Jewellery in Australia and New Zealand, Elwyn Lynn’s Art World, Art + Australia: Debates, Dollars and Delusions and Robert Hughes: the Australian Years (published in 2009).

Dr Robert Anderson received his PhD and honours degree in philosophy from the University of New England. He has over 15 years' experience teaching philosophy and critical thinking at the University of Notre Dame. He has also worked as a Research Assistant in the philosophy department of Macquarie University and has recently taught in the UK.

Robert has designed and taught undergraduate units in Critical Thinking, Formal Logic, the Philosophy of Language, Free Will and Religion. His major teaching and research areas are in critical thinking & informal logic; free will and the divine foreknowledge dilemma; and applied epistemology. Robert’s PhD thesis was a critique of Molinism which is a way to resolve the paradoxes between divine providence & foreknowledge with human libertarian free will. His honours thesis was on Reformed Epistemology.

Robert has received awards for excellence in teaching and often uses movie themes as philosophical thought-experiments to enhance understanding. He has taught popular short courses previously on the movie Inception and on other topics related to fate, free will and determinism using the film Minority Report.

Robert often receives letters from former students saying that his teaching has changed their lives and helped in their employment. He loves helping students grapple with complexity. His pedagogical approach in all of his courses is to help the student reason and argue better since he believes that philosophy is something we ‘do’ more so than just try to learn.

Lesley-Ann Angus (BA Dip ED) is a History teacher with 25 years teaching experience and is presently a teacher of Senior Modern History at MLC School in Sydney. She is an experienced teacher and marker in both HSC and IB Modern History and has taught the IB History Diploma Program course (Higher and Standard Levels) for the last 8 years.

Professor Roslyn Arnold is the recipient of a University of Sydney Teaching Excellence Award. She has taught English, Writing Development and Drama in Education courses in Australia and the United States. Roslyn is currently completing a novel, Singing the Silence, about a fictional Australian actor who grew up in rural Australia, attended boarding school in Melbourne, University in Sydney and then goes off to England where she embarks on an interesting mix of roles – Shakespeare’s Cordelia and Lady Macbeth, and, Princess Diana. Roslyn’s deep love of English literature draws her to visit England on an almost yearly basis.

Sam Arnold (BA (Psych.), PG Dip (Psych.), MA (Analytical Psych.), PhD Candidate) is an Analytical Psychologist with a background in supporting adults with an intellectual disability, acquired brain injury or dual diagnosis in community settings. Sam is a research affiliate and doctoral candidate with the University of Sydney and works as a research fellow with the Centre for Disability Studies. Sam spends most of his time as lead author of the I-CAN, the Instrument for the Classification and Assessment of Support Needs. Sam also provides counseling and clinical services at the NSW Developmental Disability Health Unit. Sam has a background in developing policy, assessment and health informatics systems, and associated staff training. Sam conducts education about disability studies, sexuality, behaviour of concern, person-centredness and actively supporting people to live in the community. Sam is a closet nerd, and in a previous life worked as a web developer on applications used by companies such as Telstra, NEC and Ford.

Tony spent the first 12 years of his professional career developing software algorithms for companies including Canon, the CSIRO and Fairlight before transitioning into the transport sector where he has worked on a variety of issues such as freight optimisation and network design. Tony’s key areas of expertise are geospatial analysis, software development (C++, Python, Django, R, Javascript), discrete choice modelling and mixed-methods research. He teaches several subjects at the University of Sydney and the Centre for Continuing Education including Python, R and GIS analysis.

Tony leads the Data & Analytics work on walking and cycling at Transport for NSW, and recently completed a PhD exploring the impacts of automated vehicles on walking and cycling in contrasting environmental contexts. He uses a diverse set of technical skills to tackle challenging problems, and is passionate about encouraging walking and cycling as a means to improve the life of people and the cities they inhabit.

Elizabeth Ashburn is an Emeritus Professor at the University of New South Wales and a Conjoint Professor at Newcastle University. She has published work on the history and theory of art is a practising artist with exhibitions across Australia and over seas. She has lectured in art and in the application of sociology to many areas such as sport, education, design and detective fiction.

Hunter is a Chinese language teacher who has always had a fascination for the mysterious and marvellous language and culture of the ancient and modern Chinese civilisation. He has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Political Economy and History along with a Post Graduate Diploma in education. He has studied and travelled in China extensively beginning in 1995 and is looking forward to supporting you in your first tentative steps in mastering this amazing and wonderful language called Mandarin.

Deborah Assheton has experience as a coach and facilitator in the areas of emotional intelligence, developing self-awareness, improving wellbeing, workplace culture and leadership. Her interest in personal development has led her to study both Western psychology and Eastern spiritual traditions over the past 10 years. Currently completing a Master’s degree in Organisational Coaching at the University of Sydney under Dr Tony Grant, Deborah also holds qualifications in psychology and change management. Within the corporate environment, Deborah leads courses and lectures for Australian and International audiences in Emotional Intelligence, effective personal change strategies, developing leadership and coaching skills. Deborah is deeply committed to living every day in alignment with her personal values, believing that each of us is already complete and unique. A deep understanding of personal and spiritual self-development process combined with a direct and practical communication style means Deborah is able to help her participants increase their self-awareness, learning to love both who they are now and understand how to continue their own personal journey.
