Course delivery modes
Please read course outlines and class dates to determine the delivery mode for your class. A class is either delivered face to face or online. We do not deliver classes in both delivery modes simultaneously. If you are not sure of a class delivery mode, please contact us prior to enrolling. Our standard Cancellation of enrolment or order by you policy applies when you have misunderstood the delivery format and wish to withdraw from a course. Please note, you will be notified via email should your class delivery mode change for any reason.
Internet and connectivity issues with online courses
All online classes are delivered in real-time via Zoom. You will be sent instructions on how to join your class a minimum of 24 hours before it starts. It is your responsibility to ensure you have a stable internet connection and to test your computer set-up prior to class commencement. If you have connectivity issues, please use the chat widget on our website to receive assistance. If you are unable to participate in a class because of a connectivity issue or your device, our standard Cancellation of enrolment or order by you policy applies. If your electricity or internet services are interrupted, and you can provide sufficient evidence of this (for e.g., an official letter from the provider), you may be eligible in some circumstances for a credit voucher or course transfer under these terms.
Email correspondence issues with courses
We will communicate with you via the email address you provide to us. This includes confirmation of enrolment, course reminders, and where applicable, changes to course information, Zoom links and access to course materials. Please note, your employer’s IT policy or email spam policy may block emails from us. It is your responsibility to check you have received all necessary information from us, and it is your responsibility to provide up-to-date contact information. If you do not receive correspondence and as a result wish to cancel, transfer or if you fail to attend a class, our standard terms and conditions apply.

Terms
The terms and conditions set out in this document ("Terms") govern your access to, and use of, the Site, as well as any application for enrolment, or order of products or services, you lodge through the Site or over the telephone, by email, or by enrolling in person.
We may vary these Terms, for any reason, at any time and without notice.
If you browse the Site, or proceed with an enrolment application or order to purchase products or services (whether through the Site, via email, by telephone, or in person), you are deemed to have accepted the Terms and agreed to comply at all times, including during your enrolment (if any) with all applicable laws in connection with the use of the Site, and your application or order, and with our by-laws, rules, policies and procedures, and that you are responsible for informing yourself of the requirements applicable to you under such by-laws, rules, policies and procedures available https://www.sydney.edu.au/policies/. This includes the University’s Student Charter, which sets out expected standards of personal and academic conduct for all students.
Applying for a course and ordering a product or service
We invite you to apply to enrol in a course, or order a product or service, by selecting and submitting your application or order through the Site or by telephone, via email, or in person. Any application or order placed through the Site or by telephone, via email, or in person is an offer by you to enrol in a course or purchase a product or service at the relevant price notified on the Site at the time of your application or order, and you acknowledge that the Terms apply to any such offer.
You agree that we may communicate important information about your course to you via the email address provided to us. Please ensure you regularly review your email and update your contact details and account settings to ensure you receive our communications.
We may ask you to provide additional information to enable us to process your application or order. You agree to provide us with current, complete and accurate details throughout the enrolment or order process.
CCE courses are developed and conducted for adults seeking non-award short courses and learning. Please ensure you carefully review the course description on our website before enrolling and contact us if you have any enquiries. If you choose incorrectly or change your mind, our standard terms and conditions apply.
With the exception of the HSC preparation courses, applicants under the age of 18 should contact CCE to discuss their enrolment.
Student visa holders
Please note that CCE courses are not registered on the Commonwealth Government’s Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). As a result, CCE cannot offer any of its courses to overseas students studying in Australia on student visas (subclass 500). For more information, please visit the Australia Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) website.
Acceptance, rejection and withdrawal by us
We may accept or reject an application for a course or order for products or services at any time before we give you notice of acceptance or rejection, and in our absolute discretion.
If we accept your application or order, we will provide you with an email confirmation of that acceptance (which may be conditional) and a binding agreement between you and us shall come into existence when we provide such confirmation. For each application or order we accept, we agree to enrol you in the relevant course or supply the relevant product or service to you, in accordance with the Terms.
We reserve the right to reject your application or order for any reason, including if a course is already full or a product or service is not currently available. If we reject an application or order, we will endeavour to notify you of that rejection within a reasonable time after you submit your application or order. If we have already received your payment, we will return, or refund in full, your payment promptly after our rejection notification.
Changes to your course
While we endeavour to ensure our courses are accurately described on our website, we reserve the right to make changes at any time and for any reason to the date(s) or location(s) of our classes. We will provide notification of such changes as soon as possible. If, as the result of a change, the course no longer meets your needs or you are unable to attend, please contact us to discuss a transfer to another course/class, a credit voucher, or a partial refund. Credit vouchers and transfers will be offered where your course has already commenced.
We also reserve the right to make minor changes to courses, such as minor changes to the course content or the teaching personnel for which we will not generally issue a refund or credit voucher.
We reserve the right to withdraw a course, product or service at any time and for any reason. If the withdrawal occurs after we have received your application or order, but before our acceptance or rejection, we will endeavour to notify you as soon as possible. If we have already received your payment, we will either offer you a credit note, or, at your request, return, or refund in full, your payment, promptly after our withdrawal notification.
Company invoicing and enrolments
Please be advised that by enrolling into a course with CCE and opting to pay by invoice, you are agreeing to these enrolment terms and conditions. Please take the time to read these carefully and feel free to contact us if you have any queries.
The terms and conditions for company enrolments are the same as for individual course participants who enrol online (but pay immediately via credit card). The advantages of enrolling via a company invoice are more payment options such as EFT, cheque or credit card and an extended payment period.
Please be aware that payment is required in full BEFORE attendance at the course. If your invoice is outstanding within three (3) business days before the start date of the class, we reserve the right to cancel your enrolment. You will receive cancellation advice via email. Cancellation of an enrolment must also be made more than five (5) business days before the course start date. Please note in the instance where a course participant does not attend the course or fails to provide more than five business days' withdrawal notice, the invoice must still be paid in full.
Issuance of a Statement of Completion
The Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Sydney runs short, non-award courses with no accreditation attached — no exams are held at the end of the training to provide any form of certification. Course participants are entitled to receive (via email only) a Statement of Completion after the course once they have attended the class and completed at least 70% of the training.
For those who require a replacement Statement of Completion where the course has been held more than a year ago from the request date, there will be an administrative fee of $20 payable.
Cancellation by us
At any time after we have accepted your enrolment application or order for products or services, we may cancel your enrolment, your order or the relevant course, for any reason. If we cancel, we will endeavour to notify you as soon as possible. You agree that our liability to you as a result of our cancellation by us is capped at the amount paid by you to us in respect of the cancelled course, product or service and CCE will not be liable for any loss suffered as a result of cancellation or change, including travel or other costs incurred.
Cancellation of course before commencement
If we cancel the course on or before its scheduled commencement date, we will cancel your enrolment. If we have already received your payment, we will promptly either offer you a credit note, or, at your request, return, or refund in full, your payment.
Cancellation of course after commencement
If we cancel the course after its scheduled commencement date because we are no longer able to conduct the course for reasons beyond our reasonable control, including a venue or facilitator becoming unavailable, or for any other reason, we will cancel your enrolment. If we have already received your payment, we may, in our absolute discretion, give you a credit note (in whole or in part on a pro rata basis) depending on the circumstances of the cancellation, unless we are required by law to give you a refund.
Cancellation of enrolment before commencement of course
If, on or before the scheduled commencement date of the course, we cancel your enrolment (but not the course) for any reason (in our absolute discretion), we will promptly either offer you a credit note, or, at your request, return, or refund in full, your payment.
Cancellation of enrolment after commencement of course
If, after the scheduled commencement date of the course, we cancel your enrolment (but not the course) for any reason (in our absolute discretion) and we have already received your payment, we may, in our absolute discretion, give you a credit note (in whole or in part) depending on the circumstances of the cancellation, unless we are required by law to give you a refund.
Cancellation of product or service order
We reserve the right to cancel a product or service order for any reason and at any time after our acceptance. We will endeavour to notify you of the cancellation as soon as possible. If we have already received your payment, we may, in our absolute discretion, give you a credit note (in whole or in part) depending on the circumstances of the cancellation, unless we are required by law to give you a refund.
Cancellation of enrolment or order by you
If you cancel your enrolment or order within 24 hours of your purchase, we will refund the fees in full (with the exception of self-paced courses).
If you enrol in a self-paced course and you log into the Learning Management System, a refund will not be granted in any circumstance and you will also not be eligible to withdraw from this course, or to claim a credit voucher for the course cost.
No refund will be issued if you cancel or re-schedule your enrolment more than 24 hours after your purchase.
Cancellation more than five (5) full business days prior to commencement of course
If you cancel your enrolment more than five (5) full business days prior to the commencement of your course you will receive a credit voucher only, to the full value of the course, for future course use. If you choose to transfer to another course more than five (5) full business days prior to the commencement of your course, you will be transferred without fee, but will have to pay any difference in course cost. In the case of multiple instances of rescheduling, we may withhold an administrative charge of not less than $50.00 from the amount of the credit value and you will be notified. No refund will be issued.
A credit voucher has fifteen (15) months' validity and must be used within 15 months of issue.
Cancellation less than five (5) full business days prior to commencement of course or failure to attend
If you cancel your enrolment or wish to re-schedule your enrolment for any reason less than five (5) full business days prior to the commencement of your course, or, if you fail to attend your course:
- there will be no credit voucher or refund issued
- you will forfeit all fees paid
- it will not be possible to re-schedule your enrolment or transfer to another course.
If you are unable to attend a course within five (5) days of the course starting, you can elect to transfer the enrolment to another individual at no cost. That individual will not be able to withdraw from the course for any reason, including all the examples given in exceptions below.
Exceptions to the standard cancellation policy may be granted in CCE’s absolute discretion in the following circumstances
- Due to sickness and upon providing a medical certificate, you may receive a credit voucher only, for future course use. Upon receipt of a medical certificate, you will be provided with a credit voucher or transfer without fee. You are not eligible for a refund.
- If you have a dependent child under the age of 15 (fifteen), or you provide daily care for someone who has a disability, medical condition or is frail/aged, who is ill and you can provide evidence of being a primary carer and their medical certificate, you will be provided with a credit voucher or transfer without fee. You are not eligible for a refund.
- In the case of death of a family member and upon providing death certificate, you will be provided with a credit voucher or transfer without fee. You are not eligible for a refund.
- If you are unable to participate in an online class because of a connectivity issue or your device, you are not eligible for a refund. Upon providing evidence of an unexpected interruption to your electricity or internet service (for e.g. an official letter from the provider), you will be provided with a credit voucher or transfer without fee. If the evidence provided demonstrates that the outage was planned prior to five (5) business days before your class commencement you are not eligible for a credit voucher or to reschedule. You are not eligible for a refund.
Please note
- We cannot accommodate for change in your work or personal circumstances (including changes to company policy), apart from the exceptions outlined above. CCE classes are approved to proceed based on enrolment numbers and class budgets. Therefore, any withdrawal or transfer may impact our ability to offer a class.
- If transferring to a later course date, and the course price has changed since your initial purpose, you will be required to pay the difference.
- If your course consists of multiple days and you are eligible for a credit voucher for reasons outlined above, a credit will be issued only for the value of the sessions outstanding, charged on a pro-rata basis.
Course quality and course skill level
We are dedicated to providing you with the best learning experience possible. Our facilitators and course content are reviewed and approved by faculty academics. The content is reviewed on a regular basis to ensure its relevance and currency. All CCE courses are non-award and do not involve any assessment of prior knowledge or competencies of course participants. We do not provide refunds if you find a course too easy or too difficult after attending. Please contact us before your course to confirm its suitability.
If you are unsatisfied with the quality of the course please contact us and submit the online evaluation form that is sent to you via email on the last day of your class. We formally investigate all complaints and gather evidence in the form of other participants' feedback, the facilitator’s response and review of the course content.
Fees and charges
We will charge you, and you agree to pay, the purchase price of the course you apply for, or product or service you order, as advertised on the Site at the time of your application or order, and any other fees and charges set out in these Terms.
All fees and charges identified in these Terms and all prices for the courses, products and services include GST where applicable.
We may vary prices for courses, products and services from time to time without notice. Subject to these Terms, we will not increase the amount payable by you for the relevant courses, products, or services once we have accepted your application or order. A transfer to a later class date constitutes a new application or order and may incur additional fees.
