Shuang Chen

Shuang has had 6 years extensive language teaching experience in both Australia and overseas including teaching Chinese and English in a prestigious university in China, the Beijing Foreign Studies University. Shuang also co-founded a language training company in Beijing specialising in tailor-made language programs for international corporations. Her students come from a diverse nationalities and backgrounds including high profile business professionals.

Shuang’s experience in the business world and teaching in a multi-cultural environment ensure the learners are well-informed of the up-to-date Chinese business culture. She cares about individual students learning needs and help them achieve their personal goals. She is also good at encouraging the learners to use the language and knowledge learnt in the classroom and apply them in real life situations.

Shuang holds a Master degree in TESOL from UNSW and a Bachelor degree in English Language and Literature from Capital Normal University in China.

Xi Ping Chen

Xi Ping Chen is the Coordinator of the Chinese language program and teacher at CCE and CI at the University of Sydney. She has recently also been teaching Chinese at Macquarie and Wollongong Universities. Her extensive experience in the design, development and teaching of Chinese courses at various campuses of TAFE NSW is spread over 20 years. This has ranged over all levels and to students from Chinese speaking background and non Chinese speaking background. Besides teaching, her professional interests have included creating materials for online courses, writing modularised self learning packages and structuring course syllabi.

Prior to moving to Australia Xi Ping was a German interpreter and translator in both Germany and China for high level seminars, symposia, conferences and political discourse. She has translated extensive ranges of documents, books and technical papers to publishing standard.

Xi Ping graduated from Shanghai Foreign Language University majoring in German and Mandarin Linguistics. She has returned to China numerous times for further study at Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing Normal University and East China Normal University (Shanghai). In 2009 she was honoured in winning the NSW Premiers Teacher Scholarship for Chinese which again enabled advanced study in China. She also has the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Xiao Chen

Xiao Chen graduated from Yunnan Normal University, People’s Republic of China with a BA and Diploma in Language Education (TEFL) in 1982, and then from Sydney University with an MA in Applied Linguistics (Curriculum and Methodology) in 1992. She has extensive experience in language teaching and program development at school and university, in China and Australia. Xiao Chen developed the introductory course materials: Hanyu ABC and Hanyu Reader for Mandarin elementary levels in CCE. In the past 10 years she has been convening the Mandarin Chinese courses in the Centre and now is also the study tour leader for CCE language and culture program to P. R. China.

Franz Cheung

Resume

Franz Cheung has been practising Chinese painting and calligraphy for many years, and since 2007 has had four solo exhibitions in Sydney and numerous group exhibitions both in Australia and overseas. Franz is currently the president of the Australian Oriental Calligraphy Society. His artwork has appeared in an Australian landscape photo album, Tranquil Waters, which he co-authored with Ian Carlson and published in 2005. He was also featured in a short film entitled 4 Immeasurable, produced by film-maker Keith Johnson in 2009.

Franz is furthermore a lecturer in Chinese art history at Macquarie University and regularly conducts workshops for the Art Gallery of NSW.

Tonmoy Choudhury

Dr. Tonmoy Choudhury, an accomplished academic and financial professional, holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance from Western Sydney University. With a rich educational background, including an M.Phil. from Aberystwyth University and a Master's from the Australian National University, Dr. Choudhury has established himself as a seasoned expert.

Currently serving as Assistant Professor in Accounting and Finance at KFUPM Business School, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, KSA, he brings a wealth of knowledge to his role. Dr. Choudhury has contributed significantly to academia, with teaching and research experiences at institutions like Edith Cowan University and Western Sydney University. His administrative roles include serving as a Brand Ambassador of Research at EMERALD Publication and as an Associate Editor for esteemed journals.

Dr. Choudhury's research prowess is evident in numerous published papers covering diverse financial topics. Notable roles include Director of The Commercial Education Society of Australia and involvement in editorial boards. Beyond academia, he has applied his financial acumen as a Financial Analyst at Finarchitect Australia Pte Ltd.

Recognized for excellence, Dr. Choudhury has received awards such as the Studies in Economics and Finance – Emerald Literati Award. His commitment to community engagement is reflected in voluntary English training for international students. In a multifaceted career, he continues to drive knowledge dissemination, critical thinking, and advancements in accounting and finance.

Ben Churcher

Ben Churcher holds a first class degree in Ancient History from the University of Queensland and a Diploma of Education from the University of Sydney. Ben has spent five years teaching Ancient History in NSW secondary schools. He has lectured and taught for the Centre for Continuing Education and the Nicholson Museum at the University of Sydney. Ben is also a producer of educational videos and resources.

Sevim Cimen

Sevim Cimen holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education as well as a Graduate Diploma in language education, specialising in interpreting and translating. She has extensive experience teaching Turkish language and is a Senior Examiner of Turkish language for the NSW Board of Studies.
