Annie Captanis

Resume

Annie has been the MIC of Debating in the Preparatory School over the past six years and has delivered a variety of engaging debating courses to students of various ages as teacher in the Honours program. She is a specialist teacher in Gifted Education who also holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Hons.) and a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary). Annie is a passionate teacher and advocate for the Gifted. She has been designing and implementing challenging curriculum to meet the needs of high ability students at the Preparatory School since 2007. Prior to this appointment Annie has worked as a classroom teacher in several Independent Schools. She works with staff, boys and their parents in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for these students.

George Carayannopoulos

Dr George Carayannopoulos is an experienced executive, researcher, consultant and author in organisational coordination and crisis management. He has been an affiliate of the Bushfires and Natural Hazards Research Centre and has published a book Disaster Management in Australia which analysed Australia’s two largest natural disasters over the last decade the 2009 Victorian bushfires and 2011 Queensland floods. Through his research he has been involved with senior leadership at the government and emergency management authority level including agencies such as Emergency Management Victoria and Emergency Management Queensland.

George has an extensive background in developing and delivering strategic projects and initiatives aimed at improving organisational performance and coordination. He has strong policy development and analysis skills aimed at translating research into applied contexts particularly with regard to crises and natural disasters.

He is a regular presenter at conferences, workshops, seminars and has appeared on a number of major media mediums including the BBC, SBS and radio as an expert commentator in the wake of crisis events.

Alina Carbajal

Resume

Alina Carbajal has followed a career as a professional Spanish teacher over the past years. She commenced her community education in this area in 1989. She has formal qualifications from New Zealand and Australia with the internationally recognised CELTA, Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults and a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. Since arriving in Australia, she has taught Spanish in different organisations, including The University of NSW Institute of Language, The International Languages, WEA and TAFE.

Alison Cardinale

Dr Alison Cardinale is an experienced secondary English teacher with a B.A. (Hons) in English Literature and a Master of Teaching qualification from the University of Sydney, along with a PhD in Romantic poetry from ANU. Alison holds a Graduate Diploma in Communications from the University of Technology.

Over the past decade, Alison has taught in a range of Sydney independent schools including Queenwood School for Girls, PLC Sydney and The Scots College. She is currently teaching at Newington College, Stanmore.

Alison has experience teaching the International Baccalaureate alongside senior English courses including HSC English Extension. Additionally, she has recent experience in HSC marking at Advanced and Extension levels.

In 2017, Alison lectured at the University of Sydney for ETA HSC student days. From 2017-2018 she was an academic tutor at the University of Sydney in the Master of Teaching English course ‘Senior Curriculum’.

Her educational philosophy is based on a student-centred approach supported by deep subject knowledge and understanding of syllabus objectives. Sharing passionate engagement with English literature and language in a manner that empowers students and fosters independent inquiry is integral to her approach to learning and curriculum delivery.

Gabrielle Carey

Gabrielle Carey has published seven books, mostly non-fiction. She has a Master of Arts (English) and a Doctorate of Creative Arts. She has taught writing in various universities for more than ten years. Her most recent book Waiting Room was described by award-winning author Gail Jones as 'exquisitely tender and beautifully written.'

Alex Carpenter

Alex has founded six businesses all in different industries, covering produce wholesaling, hospitality supplies, event promotions, gift hampers, a bicycle brand and a tourism company.

Alex runs the University of Sydney’s campus wide entrepreneurship program, Genesis. In it’s eleventh year, Genesis has helped more than 1000 entrepreneurs and supports students, staff and alumnus develop and validate business, whilst contributing $50,000 worth of seed funding annually.

Alex teaches a range of courses at the University of Sydney including Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Future of Business, Social Entrepreneurship and Global Business. He holds a Bachelor of Managerial Accounting from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Educational Psychology from the University of Sydney.

Alex is passionate about teaching the skillset of an entrepreneur to prepare people for the ever-changing Australian economic environment.

Jennifer Carpenter

Since completing her PhD in Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, Jennifer Carpenter has lectured on medieval history in Canadian, New Zealand and Australian universities. Her research interests have primarily focused on gender and religion in the Middle Ages, but have recently strayed into the study of the concept and experience of happiness in the medieval period.

Annabel Carr

Resume

Annabel Carr completed a Bachelor of Arts with Honours at the University of Sydney in 2005. She is currently a lecturer, tutor, and PhD candidate in the University’s Department of Studies in Religion. Her research interests include Australian mythologies, notions of “Otherness”, Elizabethan studies, and resonances of religion in literature, art, and film. Her doctoral thesis examines the recurring trope of the Lost Child in Australian folklore, assessing its significance in spiritual, psychological, and sociological contexts. Annabel holds an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Sydney.

Amanda Carrigan

Amanda Carrigan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Sydney as well as a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Law from the University of Technology, Sydney and is Principle of Carrigan Lawyers. Amanda was admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1993 and has held an Open Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of New South Wales since 2005.

Amanda has lectured and tutored undergraduate and postgraduate students since 2002. She has lectured and tutored at the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney, The University of Western Sydney and The Australian Catholic University , North Sydney. She is currently lecturing and tutoring undergraduate and postgraduates students in Business Law, Finance Law and Corporations Law at the University of Sydney, The University of Western Sydney and The Australian Catholic University, North Sydney.

Prior to founding Carrigan Lawyers, which has a commercial law focus, Amanda worked as an Acting Deputy Registrar in the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Whilst studying for her undergraduate degrees Amanda worked as a Tipstaff and then Associate to a number of Justices of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Anthony Carroll

Anthony is an experienced Marketer. He has been running marketing and design thinking workshops for more than 11 years. Anthony completed his Master of Business in 2007 at the University of Sydney, and a Cert IV TAE in 2010 at SIT Ultimo.

He has held many roles having worked in several brand and design agencies, as well as corporate positions, including Marketing Manager for Brand at LJ Hooker (head office) Australia and New Zealand. During this time, Anthony trained close to 700 franchise owners in marketing and branding best practices to ensure consistency and key messaging with the LJ Hooker brand across the franchise network. Anthony now heads up a Design thinking agency called yellowsneakers, which focuses on helping businesses, and organisations understand the Design thinking/Human-centred approach through training and consulting.

Building on his marketing credentials and experience, Anthony has developed a deep passion for Design thinking/Human-centred design to ensure organisations are truly customer focussed and are equipped to solve complex problems in commercial, Government and social areas.
