This HSC Exam Preparation course offers a wonderful opportunity to hone examination skills in order to maximise chances of success.

The first half of the workshop will deal with identifying common types of Mathematics Standard HSC Exam questions, reviewing past papers, and practising interpreting questions and planning responses. The presenter will also offer advice on examination technique and how to maximise exam results.

The second half will allow time for exam practice, with valuable feedback and tips provided. You will have the opportunity to ask topic specific questions and to receive individual assistance and advice.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

• answer a range of questions based on the topics covered
• critically evaluate their own and others' solutions to improve the quality of responses in assessment tasks
• interpret mathematical language of examination questions to better understand the steps for a quality solution
• identify the relationships between key areas of mathematics
• manage time effectively during examinations.

Content

Content from the HSC Mathematics Standard 2 courses will be covered. Relevant past HSC questions from the Mathematics General 2 courses will be reviewed.

Course content consists of the following syllabus references:

• MS – A1, A2, A4
• MS – F1, F4, F5
• MS – M1, M2, M6, M7
• MS – N2, N3
• MS – S1, S2, S4, S5

Intended audience

Year 12 students or accelerated Year 11 students who have already completed the previous topics.

Delivery style

Delivered as a one-day activity-based workshop where we will explore and apply mathematical knowledge and skills in a combination of lectures, tutorials and problem-solving sessions. Practice exercises are carefully graded and you will receive immediate feedback. Study skills and examination techniques will also be emphasised.

Materials

You will receive electronic copies of the following:

• course notes including relevant theory and worked examples
• examination and study advice and tips
• relevant HSC questions from recent years, with sample answers.

Bring your own device

You are required to bring your own device (Windows or Mac) and a power cord. Please ensure your device is fully charged as access to power is limited.
