Level A1/A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course is the fourth in the first year program. It covers topics including the weather, past events, growing up, various games, and city locations. Speaking, listening and writing skills are consolidated and further expanded to cover the use of pronouns, ordinal numbers and various expressions of quantity.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • describe the weather
  • describe past events
  • talk about your childhood
  • indicate the date
  • write a postcard
  • describe a family
  • indicate your plans for an upcoming holiday
  • describe appearance and personality
  • wish someone well on their holiday
  • wish someone happy birthday.

  • Past tense: passato prossimo
  • The use of essere and avere
  • Past participle regular and irregular
  • The date; _nel_+ year
  • Possessive adjectives
  • Possessive adjectives + nouns referring to family relationships
  • The Use of before/after/never

Intended audience

Suitable for A1/A2 level students, those who have completed all levels of Italian up to 103, or 60 hours of recent tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.

Either of the above textbooks can be used in class. However the instructions, descriptions and grammar rules in the newest 2023 edition (ISBN 9788861828094) are in English.

Based on Units 7-8 of the above text. The text is used for levels 101 to 201, and forms the basis for consolidation and practice. It is based on language learning through conversation method.

Textbooks should only be purchased once you receive confirmation from us. This usually occurs three days prior to class commencement.
